What’s the difference between Dysport and Botox?

Botox has become a household name but have you heard about Dysport? Recently, new injectables have been entering the market and it's hard to know the differences. 💉 Many people looking for anti-aging neurotoxins are wondering: Is Dysport better than Botox? And more importantly, which is best for YOU?

Here at The Glam Lounge, we offer both Dysport (and Xeomin). These state-of-art neurotoxins are our favorites for many reasons, let us explain why.

WHAT ARE NEUROTOXINS, LIKE BOTOX AND DYSPORT?

In short, neurotoxins are injectables used to treat wrinkles and smooth the skin. They block nerve impulses and help muscles relax 🧘🏼‍♀️ so they can also prevent future skin folding. Neurotoxins don’t sound sexy on paper, so they’re better known under their brand names like Botox and Dysport.

Both Botox and Dysport contain the same active ingredient, botulinum toxin type A, and are typically used for the same thing: rejuvenation and temporary wrinkle elimination. ✨

These two neurotoxins are most commonly used to treat 11’s (frown lines), crow’s feet, and smile lines. Most importantly, both Botox and Dysport are FDA approved and totally safe when administered by a licensed, experienced professional.

BOTOX vs. DYSPORT

Similar as they are, Botox and Dysport do have noticeable differences. They are produced by different manufacturers and have different formulas that affect their dosage, application strategy, overall cost, results, and more.

Botox is the queen 👑 of the injectable industry holding an 80% market share of the injectable industry. Crowned by the FDA in 2002, Botox was the first anti-wrinkle injectable on the market. However, plenty of other brands have entered the market. Enter, Dysport.

THE BENEFITS OF DYSPORT

Dysport earned FDA certification in 2009 becoming the second most notable injectable behind Botox. It has a lighter molecular weight than Botox containing a smaller version of a similar protein.

Slightly less potent than Botox, Dysport diffuses and spreads easier. That's why it’s great for treating larger areas like an entire forehead. However, more product is needed to get optimal results. The average patient uses about 20 units of Botox versus 40 units of Dysport.

One big benefit to Dysport is that it lasts longer than Botox. Dysport holds results for 5 months, while Botox wears off in 3-4 months. Plus, Dysport results appear in less than 48 hours, compared to the 72 hours needed by Botox. ⏱
